Renal vein occlusion as a complication of anterior spinal fusion

R Parkinson, R Reddy and C Johnson, Journal of Clinical Neurosciences (2011) 18

Abstract

We report a 41-year-old female with inferior renal vein compression following anterior lumbar interbody fixation and fusion. Traumatic vascular injuries are not uncommon with anterior approaches to the spine; however, compressive vascular injuries are not well described.

This report serves to raise the awareness that such injuries may occur due to distortion of normal anatomy.
